Hockey is more than just a game, its family and community involvement and that’s exactly what the Stratford Fighting Irish are all about.

The team as part of the Western Ontario Super Hockey League has worked alongside Town Crier Marketing Stratford as a non profit as a way to help build the community, bring out fans to the games while also supporting various causes and organizations along the way.

Cameron Ohlman of Town Crier Marketing Stratford says the league as a whole started up to have more hockey available for families to bring in games and events,

“The Stratford Fighting Irish and the whole Western Ontario Super Hockey League was really meant to make hockey more available and accessible and affordable for families to have games and events, that’s their mantra there, its not just necessarily hockey games but they want to have community events and enrich the community with hockey.” said Ohlman

A combo partnership with Town Crier, the Fighting Irish and the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron was able to treat some Ukrainian newcomers to the area to their first experience of Canadian hockey.

Cameron Ohlman says they’ve had passes to give out for games, which was a great way to treat the Multicultural Association.

“When we partnered with the Fighting Irish, part of the package was a bunch of passes to gift to people we deal with and we approached the Multicultural Association and said if any of the newcomers or anyone in need who want to come and check out these games and introduce them to Canadian hockey. There was some Ukrainian folks that liked hockey back home and took us on the offer and they came out and had a couple beers and got their first taste of Canadian hockey”

There’s still plenty of action for the Fighting Irish who are just above the middle of the pack in the 9 team league as Ohlman encourages everyone to get the taste of Canadian hockey action
