Food Day in Canada is very much closer to being a reality across the country.
Bill S-227 has passed its second reading in the House of Commons with an unanimous vote to adopt the bill.
Perth-Wellington MP John Nater who introduced the bill in May says this all started with late Elora resident, Anita Stewart during the 2003 scare of mad cow disease.
“In those dark days in the agriculture industry in 2003, one person stood up and said lets do something positive. That one person was Anita Stewart.” said Nater.
With the second reading passed, the bill has been referred to the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food for consideration with hopes to have it passed well before the summer which would officially mark August 5th 2023 as the first Food Day in Canada
