It’s just about time for the outdoor rink with the Atwood Lions as the weather gets colder and snow hits the ground to stay.
Before any use of the rink would be permitted however, some official business needed to be taken care of and approved by North Perth council.
A new lease was recently finalized and approved by the Lions which then needed council approval.
Manager of Facilities, Jeff Newell says a lack of a lease in 2021 led to the closure of the rink.
“In the absence of an updated lease agreement and liability insurance the rink was closed for the season. Over the following months, municipal staff and Atwood Lions executives developed an agreed upon lease.” said Newell.
The new lease has a length of 20 years, not set to expire until 2042.
Council approved the new lease for the rink, Todd Kasenberg did not vote with a conflict of interest.
