The Town of Minto issued a reminder to residents over the weekend in regards to Accessory Apartments.
They say that in April of 2021 Council passed a By-Law allowing for one attached and one detached apartment unit per property providing they meet the Zoning By-Law regulations.
They then add that Municipal approval is required for these units to be legal.
A Town Building Inspector must grant the apartment occupancy and they ensure the safety of all occupants for electrical, fire and egress requirements.
Without this approval, the Town says they are not legal and it will impact your insurance coverage in the event there in an incident for both them and the tenant.
The Town finishes by saying they want them and their tenants to be safe and to contact the Town of Minto Building Department with any questions.
