The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has released a statement following the untimely passing of Ayr Centennials Captain Eli Palfreyman on Tuesday evening as he and the team were participating in the inaugural Ayr Farmers Mutual Global Invitational tournament.
In the statement League Commissioner Brett Garbutt says that the league and all members teams extend their deepest condolences to Eli’s family, friends, his teammates and the entire Centennials organization.
They then add that as his friendship ran deep throughout the league, it has been assisting with providing grief and mental health professionals to support the team as well as other teams and their players.
The league has announced that all Exhibitions games through tonight have been postponed and league members are discussing ways to remember Palfreyman throughout the upcoming season.
