The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame advised of the passing away of Manitoba baseball legend and inductee Gladwyn Scott. He passed away on Thursday at the age of 90.
Scott dedicated more than 60 years to baseball as a player, coach, executive and volunteer. Though he didn’t play organized baseball until he was 16, he eventually pitched on his hometown Hamiota Manitoba squa alongside his brother Glennis, with his father, Jim, serving as the team’s catcher.
At the age of 20, he began coaching & proceeded to serve in numerous administrative capacities locally, provincially, and nationally, including managing three Hamiota teams to provincial championships.
From 1983 to 1987, he was president of the Manitoba Baseball Assocation and VP with Baseball Canada from 1986 to 1989.
Known as Manitoba’s Mr. Baseball he also scouted part-time for the Blue Jays from 1987 to 1993 and the Atlanta Braves from 1994 to 2001.
He was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008 along with Blue Jays legendary shortstop Tony Fernandez, late Blue Jays executive Peter Widdrington and former Dodgers right-hander Billy Harris.
