The next time you go to buy raspberries at the grocery store you may notice a new location on product from California produce giant Driscoll’s.
The company is using Canadian raspberry producers to make up for the water shortage stateside.
The company Pépinière A. Massé, in Montérégie, Quebec developed the relationship with Driscoll’s over three years and now produces between 80 and 100 tons of raspberries a year for them.
Driscoll’s develops the genetics of the fruit, the plants and the producers produces the product.
The company has in the past resorted to Mexico to makeup for the shortfall in the states but they too are dealing with heat waves and drought.
Driscoll’s also uses growers in British Columbia.
