Council discussed opening up a new position within the area for a Community Deveoloper and Support Worker.
Since last August, North Perth has worked alongside Family Services Perth Huron, Stratford and United Way for the launch of a pilot program for a Community Developer and Support Worker.
The need for this position has been shown as a result of the pandemic, mental health concerns as well as homelessness.
CAO Kriss Snell says funding, which is broken down of $70,000 provided by Stratford and $25,000 from North Perth will be based on a year contract with a potential renewal.
“It’s a one year contract with the potential to be extended depending on what comes out of the Community Safety Well Being Plan or other initiatives the municipality can seek.” said Snell.
Discussion was limited as council agreed the need for such a position in the community, approving 9-0.
