Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is making sure its not stepping over dentists in private practice as it dives deep into the Ontario Seniors Dental Program.
Public Health units have been mandated by the province to offer the program which provides free dental care to eligible low income seniors.
Public Health had received funding from the province to start the program in 2018 and roll it out by 2019 however delays from the pandemic put the program on hold, returning last May.
To be eligible for the program, seniors must be 65 or older and have no access to private or public dental benefits, including through the Ontario Disability Support Program or Ontario Works.
There is currently around 410 patients on the waiting list.
