Four Grade 7 and 8 students at Stratford Intermediate School have made it their job to organize, promote and facilitate a Student Vote to coincide with the June 2nd provincial election.

Grade 8 student Grace Herman and Grade 7 students Evora Meszaros, Freya Inglis-Eickmeier and Jenna Jacobs with the guidance & support of staff advisor Jesica Leney say they believe that organizing a student vote is important so students can learn about democracy.

On June 2nd each class at the school will take part in an in-person vote. The four students will facilitate and later tabulate the ballots. Leading up to election day, classes are being encouraged to review and discuss a presentation the group has prepared which introduces the parties and candidates.

The Ontario Student Vote initiative is something any school can participate in. Organized by CIVIX, it is a program dedicated to build the skills and habits of active and informed citizenship among young Canadians.
