Ahead of national Canada Road Safety Week, OPP are reporting preventable road fatalities have hit a 10 year high.

To date 107 fatalities have been reported on OPP patrolled roads, 3 of which have occurred in Huron County.

The number of deaths by the second week of May has not been seen since 2012. Driver inattention is up 79 per cent from the same time period as last year with the loss of 25 lives.

Alcohol and drug related deaths are also up with 15 people killed, a 36 per cent increase.

During Canada Road Safety Week, Huron County OPP join national policing partners to conduct robust enforcement and education around inattentive driving, speeding, aggressive driving, impaired and seatbelt compliance.
