Hudson ‘s Bay Company Gifts It’s Winnipeg Flagship Store to Manitoba First Nations

Transfer of building and 600,000 square feet will allow the creation of 300 housing units, two restaurants, health facility, childcare centre, museum and art gallery.

The Hudson’s Bay Company announced today that they are gifting one of it’s grandest buildings to the Southern Chiefs’ Organization, a group representing 34 Manitoba First Nations.

The transfer of the former flagship Winnipeg store, and it’s 600,000 square feet will allow the creation of 300 housing units, two restaurants, health facility, childcare centre, museum and art gallery.

The store opening in 1926 but was closed in November 2020.

The project is being called Wehwehneg Bahgankinahgohn or “it is visible”.
