Ontario’s Minister of Finance, Peter Bethlenfalvy has announced the government’s Tax Relief at the Pumps Act has passed which will take effect July 1st.
The gas tax will be cut by 5.7 cents per litre with the fuel tax cut by 5.3 cents per litre for six months.
The reasoning according to officials for why the act won’t start until July is because of the way gas and fuel taxes are paid to province.
The consumer pays the tax at the pump which then offsets the amount the retailer paid to the supplier.
