During Monday’s meeting, North Perth Council heard from Warren Howard, on behalf of Elma-Mornington Concerned Citizens regarding municipal zoning related to wind turbines.

Howard briefly touched on the various history with turbines, mainly of sites unqualified and projects failing to go forward.

Howard adds its important to protect agriculture land in new suggested zoning rules for wind turbines.

“I think we should be prohibiting wind turbines as a use for prime agricultural land. We should be establishing a proper noise setback. Wind concerns is recommending 2000 metres or 2 kilometers as well as establishing setbacks from property lines, we’re recommending 1200 metres.” said Howard.

Some discussion did follow, mostly in regards to if changes to the official plan is at the county level.

Howard says a similar presentation is planned in Perth East and is open to discussing at the county level.
