Mapleton Adopts Election Sign Bylaw

Council discussed outright banning election signs but did not go forward

With the provincial and municipal elections looming, Mapleton has adopted a bylaw for election signs.

The bylaw echo’s a bylaw seen across Wellington County dealing with signage.

Displaying election signs will be permitted until after the writ is issued for a provincial or federal election.

The bylaw will also affect the sizes which can be no more than 1.5 metres wide and 2 meters in height and contains writing of the signs may not obstruct lines of sight for traffic or pedestrians.

While some discussion was given about outright banning election signs with multiple candidates running, especially in a municipal election.

Council ultimately voted in adopting a bylaw for signs.
