Centre Wellington in the past has been victim of a termite problem and council is looking to tackle the issue.

After staff had identified termite zones across the area staff has given a plan to deal with them.

Managing Director of Planning and Development Brett Salmon says 259 properties in Elora and Fergus have been found to have active termite activity known as the red zone with 219 properties in the blue zone.

A program of treatments has been proposed to clean up in the spring and fall moving over the next 5 years then to begin treatment for the blue zone.

The township program will only treat termites outdoors, residents will be responsible for dealing with termites in their own home.
