The Town of St. Marys announced today that they have finalized a deal to purchase 14 Church Street North, the former home of the Mercury Theatre. It has sat vacant since 2006.
They say that they purchased it with a plan to preserve it’s heritage value as well as a potential site for cultural activities, a library and leisure programming and administrative space.
The fact that the building is also located directly across from Town Hall and the St. Marys Public Library also motivated the Town to make the purchase.
They now say they will hiring a planning consultant and establish a steering committee to determine the appropriate use of the property.
