The Huron County OPP say a North Huron resident faces several charges following a string of events that took place last month in Wingham.

The events started January 13th shortly after 6:30am when officers received a report of a shoplifter of candy bars at a gas station on Kerr Drive. The accused hurled some of the bars back at the employee when confronted and fled on foot.

The accused then went across the street to another gas station and stole a vehicle that was left running while the driver was inside the station. The vehicle was crashed shortly thereafter into a tree on Augusta street.

Officers arrived shortly thereafter and the accused was arrested and taken into custody.  The accused showed several signs of impairment by drug, and was also arrested for impaired operation.

A 35 year old of North Huron was charged with theft under $5,000, assault, theft of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired, while prohibited and 3 counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Goderich court on February 11th.
