The St. Marys Fire Department announced today that they have donated a truckload of firefighters boots to the Firefighters Without Borders Canada charity.
Twenty one pairs are being donated to fire departments in need.
The decommissioned footwear are still in great condition and suitable for service, however they expire for use in Canada after 10 years.
The donation prevents the usable equipment from ending up in a landfill and have a replacement value in the thousands of dollars.
Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson says countries likely to benefit are Honduras, the Dominican Republic, South America and the Philippines. He adds that they are countries which don’t have suitable equipment for their firefighters.
