There has been rumors floating around on the internet that the late Golden Girl, Betty White, who passed away recently mere weeks away from her 100th birthday had a family connection to Wingham.

Huron County Historian David Yates confirmed it recently that on one of her genealogical sites.

Canadian Census records and the Ancestry website seem to confirm that White’s maternal grandmother Margaret Hobbs was born in Wingham on March 5th, 1877.

Betty White was a pioneering woman in television with her career spanning 7 decades.

She passed away on New Years Eve only a month before she would have turned 100.

You can find more about Betty’s ties to Wingham and North Huron in this week’s Wingham Advance Times newspaper.
