The federal government is dropping down the fee for a criminal pardon to $50, down from over $650 as of the New Year.
The move fulfils one of the promises made by the Liberals to improve the justice system to make it easier and less expensive to obtain a pardon.
In addition to the $50 fee, applicants will be responsible for any extra fees to obtain information needed for their application such as court documents, finger prints and police checks.
The government also has plans to spend money on a more modern portal for the Parole Board of Canada to make the application process more easier and quicker.
