The Ontario government is scrapping the branches of certain high school courses.
Students are currently required to declare if they want to pursue academic or applied courses, but critics felt certain minority students were being disproportionately funneled towards the applied courses resulting in limiting their career choices.
The government began the process this fall, bringing in a new math course.
Next year, science, geography, English and French will be added to the list.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce said they will continue to take action to lift up all students.
