Centre Wellington council had some pot stirring in their recent meeting.

Council only reviewed one report, for funds to the purchase of land for a new operations centre through the Ontario Infrastructure Lands Corporation.

However the meeting spiced up when councilor Bob Foster accused staff of withholding information.

“Once again we haven’t been given full and accurate information. We were told for the land purchase it was $3.9 million but today we learning with the financing costs included its well into 5.3 million range.” said Foster

Mayor Kelly Linton wasn’t sure where Foster was pulling his numbers from and responded back as such.

“Me calling you to task on the numbers you’re pulling out of the air is not a point of order. That’s requiring evidence of something that you’re saying which misaligned to what we’re hearing from our staff. I’m not ruling a point of order.” said Linton

Foster spoke quickly back over Linton saying it was an attack on his integrity and he wished to defend himself however Mayor Linton was not having it.

“Councilor Foster. One more outburst and I’ll ask you leave the meeting.”

Councilors Steven VanLeeuwen, Neil Dusmore and Ian MacRae noted using debt to purchase the land was already presented to councilor previously.

Councilors Foster, Kirk McElwain and Stephan Kitras voted against seeking a loan while Linton, Dunsmore, MacRae and VanLeeuwen voted in favour.
