Ontario is introducing legislation which would give workers the right to wear a poppy during the week of Remembrance Day.

The government says it was to make sure the right in law reminds employers of the debt of gratitude a poppy shows to those who serve the country, adding it should be reflected in employment policies and practices.

There will be an exception to the law if a poppy poses a safety hazard.

Premier Doug Ford promised there would be legislation on the matter since last November when Whole Foods Market did not allow employees to wear anything on their uniforms, including poppies.
