August 31st marks Overdose Awareness Day.

The day is to acknowledge the losses which happen every year to overdose death.

Those overdosing has seen a rise brought on by the pandemic as mental health has taken its toll on many as well as treatment centres closing and being unavailable.

Paulie O’Byrne from I’m 1 in 5 says this hits more than just big cities.

“Seeing a lot of people dying from overdose or dying on waiting lists waiting to get into treatment centres. This is across the board, not just cities but small towns we’re also seeing this.” said O’Byrne

Many tools are available to help those looking to battle addiction. These resources can be found on many platforms, including OverdoseDay.com and from HPPH.ca
