Impaired Novice Driver Ditches Car in Howick

Novice driver received 90 day license suspension and vehicle impounded

A single motor vehicle collision investigated by the Huron County OPP last week has resulted in police charging a novice class driver with impaired operation blood alcohol 80 plus.

On Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 6:35pm officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Fordwich Line near Driftwood Beach.

Minutes later Minto Fire, Bruce County Medical Services and officers arrived on the scene to find a compact vehilce in the ditch with extensive damage.

The driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer had reason to believe the driver had consumed some alcohol.

As a result an approved screening device was used to test the driver and a fail was registered.

An Intoxilizer Technician then conducted breath tests and both test were found to be over the legal limit.

A 27 year old maleĀ  of Clifford has been charged with impaired operation 80 plus and novice driver with blood alcohol above zero.

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in a Goderich court on September 13 to answer to the charges.

An automatic 90 day license suspension has been served on the driver and the vehicle was impounded.
