Shotgun Fished out of Thames River in St. Marys

Age of firearm is not known as police attempt to identify owner

On Sunday, August 15, 2021 shortly after 9:30 am the Stratford Police Service received a report from a man who was fishing in the Thames River at Milt Dunnell Park, in the Town of St. Marys after he reeled in a shotgun from the river.

The firearm is a JC Higgins Model 20-12 gauge shotgun. It has been modified to include a pistol grip handle and sawed-off barrel.

There is no serial number on the firearm and it’s believed to have been made prior to that requirement. The firearm was wrapped in a 2XL black sweater when it was pulled from the river and found to be heavily rusted.

At this time it is unknown how long the firewarm was in the river for and police are attempting to identify the owner. if anyone has any information regarding this item they are asked to call Stratford Police at 519-271-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS.
