Mitchell Fire Siren Could Return

Fire siren has not been used since 2009

The sounds of a fire siren could be returning to the West Perth fire hall in Mitchell.

This move will be entirely decided by the public as council had discussed in a meeting in July.

Emergency sirens are used to help call on firefighters to the station when an emergency call goes out as well as to alert residents of major weather such as tornadoes.

The West Perth emergency siren was in service from the 1960’s until 2009 but was no longer used after the call to silence it was made by the previous fire chief to stop people from chasing fire trucks to the scene.

Council has agreed to mention the date and time of another test of the siren and then do a public survey and consultation to follow.
