Huron County OPP Canada Day Safety Equipment Campaign

Nearly 100 percent of water and trail users complying with safety

Huron County OPP have wrapped up their Canada Day Safety Equipment Campaign and the results indicate the campaign was a success.

The 9 day campaign started on June 26th and ended July 4th. The campaign involved officers promoting the use of safety equipment while on patrol on area roadways, waterways and trails.

They found nearly 100 percent compliance on water with operators having on-board all required safety equipment. The majority also were wearing pfd’s on the operator and all passengers.

Cyclists, skateboarders and scooter riders were also commonly found using safety equipment such as helmets and reflective clothing.

On roadways officers responded to 24 motor vehicle collisions. 4 involved injury, 9 were crashes with animals, 106 drivers were charged with speeding, 7 with failing to wear a seatbelt, 5 with liquor license act charges and 2 with impaired driving.
