Backlogged Surgeries Will Take Over Three Years to Clear

Cost of surgeries will be $1.3 billion

Ontario’s fiscal watchdog says it will take almost three and a half years to recover and clear the surgical backlog brought on from the pandemic.
The backlog of surgeries is expected to reach over 400,000 by the end of September.
The Financial Accountability Office says it will cost $1.3 billion to clear the backlog of surgeries, which the government so far has set aside $610 million in their latest budget to address the issue.
