Stratford Festival Reports $4.3 Million Loss in 2020

Festival will go outdoors for the summer

The Stratford-Festival reported a loss of $4.3 million in 2020 as the pandemic forced the festival to close its doors for the season.

The year was to be a big season with the rebuilt Tom Patterson Theatre.

During their annual general meeting over the weekend, the revealed their deficit which was its largest in the history of the festival. A lot of costs were saved from assistance from donors, the government and the Stratford Festival Endowment Foundation.

In order to stay afloat, expenses were cut by 57 percent which was mostly felt in laying off the majority of the staff and artists, with 15 plays being wiped.

Despite the challenges, officials are excited for this summer when they take the festival outdoors.
