Despite Mitchell Minor Hockey to pay up $5000 to offset the restart cost, council will not be putting back the ice in the Mitchell Arena for the season.
West Perth council voted a narrow 6-4 decision shooting down the motion to have the ice put back for the remaining 6 weeks. Darcy Cook, recreation and facilities manager highlighted the issue of trying to maintain the ice in warmer weather in the spring adding the extension of ice would just be too challenging.
Council had removed the ice back in January amidst the lockdown at stay-at-home orders to shutdown maintenance costs during the pandemic.
