Two people were taken to hospital after a fire in West Perth yesterday, one with major, life-threatening injuries.

Yesterday just before 9:30 am Perth County OPP, West Perth Fire Department and Perth County Paramedics responded to a fire at an apartment building on St. David Street in Mitchell.

Two adults were transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries but one has been updated to life-threatening.

The road was closed between Waterloo and Rowland Street for emergency crews, but it has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and while it is considered suspicious, there are no risks to the safety of the public. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall and the OPP Forensic Identification Service are assisting the Perth County Major Crime Unit with the investigation.
