Ontario is set to start gradually reopening the economy next week except in the GTA where the stay-at-home order would be extended for an additionally week.

Premier Doug Ford is expected make the announcement Monday that the current state of emergency declared last month would be allowed to expire as scheduled on February 9th, government sources told The Canadian Press.

The plan reportedly has a provision in place to allow the government to quickly move a region back int lockdown if it experiences rapid acceleration in Covid-19 transmission or if the health care system sees an unmanageable spike in admissions.

The provision is meant to help deal with the risks posed by the new variants of Covid-19.

The current stay-at-home order is set to remain in place for much of the province with each region moving back into the colour coded Covid-19 protection framework which allows Ontario to follow cases by health units based on the numbers and the predictions.
