Impaired Driver arrested after fleeing from Crash near Guelph

A 54 year old of Hamilton faces 3 charges

On December 24th at approximately 2am the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver on Township Road 3 north of Wellington Road 30 in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

It was reported that the vehicle left the road, struck a pole and rolled over. Witnesses told the police that the driver fled the scene on foot.

While patrolling the area police located the driver near the collision scene. Police spoke with the driver and determined their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrerst and underwent further testing.

A 54 year old male of Hamilton has been charged with operation while impaired alcohol and drug, careless driving and failure to remain.

A 90 day drivers license suspension and 7 day vehicle impoundment was initiated. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court in Guelph on January 29th to answer to charges.
