The Better Beef plant in Guelph is now reopen.

The plant was shutdown previously due to COVID-19, where 82 of the their 950 workers tested positive for the virus. Another 129 workers went into self-isolation due to a potential exposure. Cargill’s plant is crucial to Ontario’s beef farmers as there are little alternative plants available for cattle slaughter.

The federal and provincial government has set aside $5 million to help farmers who have been unable to slaughter their cattle and can apply to help cover costs such as feed.

Public health is again reminding residents if they aren’t feeling well, to not come into work under any circumstance.
