The Provincial Government announced details of the upcoming Provincial Lockdown.
Ontario will enter the grey lockdown level on Boxing Day at just after midnight. The move announced follows a similar move by the province of Quebec. It means in-person shopping at most retail stores, the prohibiting of indoor and outdoor dining, restricting indoor access to shopping malls and limits gatherings to members of the same household.
The reasoning for doing it province wide as opposed to only in those regions facing higher positivity rates for Covid-19 was due to proximity and ease of movement by those that would be locked down to move to regions with lesser restrictions.
Examples given include Ottawa where they have brought their testing positive rates down. They would have faced an influx of visitors from nearby Quebec the Premier stated.
The restrictions will stay in place for a minimum of 28 days.
It will mean in-person classes in schools won’t resume until at lease January 11th for elementary schools and January 25th for secondary school students.
