The Mapleton Fire Department responded to an afternoon chimney fire this afternoon at a home. The crew noticed light smoke on arrival but within minutes conditions changed and flames were visible from the roof. Quick work from those firefighters working inside and outside allowed the crew to save this home with minimal damage.
Salvage teams made sure that inside items like the Christmas tree, presents, furniture and personal possessions were moved out of the affected area to keep damage and loss to a minimum.

Please remember to regularly have your chimney checked and cleaned from creosote buildup. If in doubt.. clean it out.
