Statistics Canada says the economy added 7400 jobs last month, not enough to keep the unemployment rate from rising for a second month.
The agency says the unemployment rate jumped to 6.9 per cent in April, matching a high from November.
Stats Canada says the numbers show employers aren’t higher as fast as the population grows.
The biggest loss was in manufacturing with a loss of 31,000 jobs in April as tariffs from the United States hammer the industry.
