It’s not often a business reaches a half century in a community offering their products and services. It’s even few that approach a century.
Listowel’s own Ideal Supply is celebrating 95 years this year services the area.
Marketing Coordinator for the Company Peter Mackie tells how it all got started nearly a century ago.
“We started back in 1926. The two founders invented a new bread molding machine. Their success with that they looked into different areas where they could find success. The growing automotive parts supply company and repair market got their attention.”
The company has evolved a lot over the last 95 years. The products that they have offered have changed with the times and have encompassed many different categories.
“Over its history they’ve sold hardware, tires, had a gas station, sold toys, console radios, you name it. It was a lot of cool products sold out of the old Grand Central Hotel in Downtown Listowel.”
The company may have changed with the times but one thing that hasn’t changed is the tight knit connection Ideal Supply has with the communities they do business in.
“We have always definitely been in the rural, small town market. We enjoy having a tight knit, close community. It’s very much our company culture. You will see that when you walk into any of our stores, our head office or our warehouses. People are our family and we like that atmosphere in our communities as well.”
In terms of the pandemic Ideal Supply was well situated in the shift to online commerce. The one thing Peter says they’re really had to adjust to is thing such as the in-person trade shows the company traditional puts on.
