The Federal Government announced Bill C-21 yesterday that provides severalĀ new rules and regulations including a provision to allow municipalities to ban handguns and increase criminal penalties fur gun smuggling and trafficking.
If enacted it would create red and yellow flag laws that would allow people, such as concerned friends or relatives, the ability to apply to a court for the immediate removal of someone’s firearm.
It also provides for a restricted firearms buyback program, which although light on details, seems to give an option to those that own some of the 1500 models on the Federal Prohibited List to get rid of their firearms.
The estimated cost of the buyback program by Government estimates is between 400 and 600 million dollars.
