In helping keep the community safe, Enbridge Gas, the North Perth Fire Department and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council have made it that much more easier for those in need to equip homes with fire and carbon monoxide alarms.

Dubbed Project Zero, this has allowed the fire department to receive 192 Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms which are aimed to be given for free for those who would unable to be able to afford such alarms.

North Perth Fire Chief Janny Pape says this comes in at a good time right before new regulations will take effect January 1st.

“It will be requiring carbon monoxide alarms in addition to smoke alarms on every level of a home. This is very exciting that we’ll be able to hand these out for free in our community” said Pape.

Desirée Swance, Advisor, Municipal & Stakeholder Engagement, Enbridge Gas says “Proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances is the most effective way to prevent carbon monoxide exposure. We’re proud to support our communities by raising awareness and helping Ontarians take simple, proactive steps to stay safe in their homes.”

Pape urges those who will need these alarms but might not be able to afford them and meet these new requirements to reach out and visit the Listowel Fire Station for a combination alarm.
