Hanife Ajjo, a 13 year old at North Perth Westfield has shared her story of moving from Syria to Listowel and the journey into Canada.
Hanife was five years old when she left her home country due to the war going on in Syria.
The trip took them from a distant area in Syria away from the fighting, then into Turkey where they lived with relatives for a few years in a two bedroom apartment.
During their stay in Turkey they experienced discrimination and didn’t feel safe. Eventually the family was accepted into Canada where they packed up once again.
Hanife says her life in Listowel is a mix of joy for what they have and what they have given up.
