School Bus Stop Arm Cameras Installation Hitting Walls

Despite gaining a bunch of traction and discussion in the summer, the conversation on getting school bus stop arm cameras across the province has slowed down massively.

The issue, first raised by North Perth councilor Allan Rothwell in March quickly gained support from town, city and municipality councils across the province.

John Chapman who operates Newry Coach Lines says the idea for stop arm cameras on paper sounds simple to work out but challenges are being seen.

“Who’s going to pay for the cameras and who’s going to monitor. As far as the bus operators are concerned its pretty simple to us, get them installed and start taking pictures and you guys figure it out but that’s not the way the political element seems to be working” said Chapman

Annette Diamond, Director of Legal and Corporate Services for Perth County gave an update on the matter last Thursday during a Perth County council meeting who says while talking to the province, they’ve pointed to the issue as a federal one.
