Welcome to Roland’s Good News File… Brought to you by Royal LePage Don Hamilton Real Estate I’m Roland Archer…

The subject of this segment of the Good News File has been playing hockey since she was very young.. Varna’s Payton Kerr tells us how she got started…

“My parents took me out when I was very young. We would skate with them. They would actually push us around in our stroller. I actually started with ringette first. Then I moved to hockey and I’ve loved it ever since.”

This quest for competition has led Payton to a wide variety of teams through her career. Payton tells us about the hockey journey and the teams she’s played on.

“I started with BCH, then I moved to WAVE, then I moved to AAA Boys with the Lakers, then London, then to KW Lady Rangers, and now with Ryerson.”

Besides playing in these teams here in Canada Payton’s hockey journey also led her overseas. She travelled as a 14 year old with the West Coast Select’s elite womens team to Prague in the Czech Republic. The team which only featured 13 players including a backup goaltender. She had a goal in an assist in the tournament which saw the team shut out the competition in the finals 3 to nothing.

“My favourite Womens hockey player is Natalie Spooner. My favourite male player is Auston Matthews.”

Payton definitely never ceases to dream big. Her aspirations are those of many female hockey players in the game today. She tells us more.

“My dream would be the Olympics. If I keep striving with where I’m going I can possibly get there.”

I wish Varna’s Payton Kerr all the best in her quest for achieving her goal of appearing for Canada on the hockey world stage at the Winter Olympics. She would follow in the footsteps of so many legendary hockey players before her. All in their quest for Olympic Gold.
