Paul Johnston Vaccination Coordinator (03/02/21)

Welcome to Roland’s Good News File.. Brought to you by Royal LePage Don Hamilton Real Estate… I’m Roland Archer.

With the arrival of more vaccines into our communities all are setting up the infrastructure to administer the doses to residents.

Wellington County faces the same situation in their community. They face the requirement to have a person at the helm as vaccination efforts coordinator to make sure all of the moving parts of the vaccinating to keep it on track and achieving the goal of seeing all residents vaccinated as efficiently as possible.

This is where Palmerston born and Mount Forest raised Paul Johnson comes in. He has worked for Wellington County for 37 years mostly in the capacity of operations manager before a short stint in retirement last fall.

He was hand picked for the position by Wellington County CAO Scott Wilson in late January after being asked to consider the role. He accepted at the beginning of February.

The position is a mainly logistically one. His duties are to make sure the facility is properly setup, managed and continually has the supplies it needs to run smoothly.

Johnson’s previous experience has proved beneficial in the new role.

The first vaccination clinic location is in Fergus at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex. It opened on February 19th. Johnson was also in charge with setting up other sites in the area including the pop-up vaccination clinic at the Mount Forest and District Sports complex that starts operating this Friday.

His knowledge of the areas of Wellington County meant that scouting prospective locations for clinics went smoothly.

After Mount Forest there are plans to do additional clinics in Palmerston, Drayton, Harriston and Arthur.

The initial clinic in Mount Forest has the capacity to vaccinate 500 doses per day with the ability to scale up to 5000 doses per day once vaccine supply increases. Initially those vaccinated will be the high-risk groups as directed by the Province’s Ethical Framework for Vaccine Distrubution.
