Mental health issues are something we are all battling with to a certain extent due to the trying times we are in. We all need to know that there are resources out there to help us cope with the challenges we all face when times get tough.
North Perth Cares is a volunteer organization with its members coming from all walks of life. Lindsey White from the organization gives us an overview of who makes up the group.
“Some of us work in the field. Some of us are parents with youth that have struggled with mental health. Ourselves we may have some mental health struggles as well.”
The objective of North Perth Cares is simple. Lindsey tells us what they aim to be for the Community.
“There are services available maybe not in North Perth. How do people learn about these services? How do they understand how to go about referrals to these services? It’s very difficult systems especially when you are dealing with mental health concerns.”
The organization also aims to be a facilitator the community at large with how to foster an inclusive world for those dealing with mental health challenges.
“What we would like to do when Covid is over is organize speakers and events and training for the North Perth Community.”
North Perth Cares plans to offer programs virtually include one called SMART. Lindsey tells more about what it’s all about.
“It’s a suicide prevention program that can be done virtually. We are looking at that option to offer it to some folks in the community.”
The Community has fostered amazing support for North Perth Cares. She tells us about one group in particular that has taken up the cause.
“We did receive some funding thankfully from the Kinsmen. They are trying to support us in us trying to get launched. They did provide us some funding towards that.”
