Mapleton Council Turns Down Cemetery Request on Church Property

Mapleton council has turned down a zoning amendment which would have allowed for a cemetery on the property of a local church after hearing from locals opposed to the proposal.

The cemetery would have been on the property owned by the Markham-Waterloo Mennonite Conference in the township of Maryborough.

The public raised their concerns on land use compatibility as well as ground water protection.

Councilors respected the comments from the public and ultimately voted down the adoption of a draft bylaw which would have allowed the cemetery on the land.
