There’s a saying that you can take the kid out of the country but never the country out of the kid… it’s an ode to what you are raised in becomes a part of who you are.

This is true about current professional musician Dave Tanner.

The Listowel native is celebrating the release of his solo project entitled “Passerine Dream”, The album released on May 3rd.

Dave tells us about the early years of his Listowel upbringing.

“I always remembered it as a pretty booming small town. Not much in the way of vacancy. Everything seemed full and the downtown was full of businesses and vibrant.”

Dave chose to move away from the area when he decided to pursue post secondary education. He explains the journey he took.

“I used to be a pretty good golfer. I set my sights on going to an American University to walk on to a golf team and play in a golf program. I did that. I went to Northeast Missouri State. It took me a couple semesters but I did eventually walk on to the team.”

Golf wasn’t the place he ended up at the end of his studies. There was a musical intervention that took place in his life. Dave explains.

“I always wanted to be in bands. I got into some bands. It led me to learn to play Beatles songs. Then I got hired to be in a Beatles Tribute band. I left my desk job in 2015 and I’ve been a full-time touring musician since then.”

This leads us up Dave’s Solo Album Passerine Dream. He wrote and recorded the album during the current pandemic. He tells us how he chose the subject matter of the songs.

“Much of the album is complete emotion. I tried to make it an album about hope.”

If you can give the album a listen. Passerine Dream is available on most music streaming services and through his website.
