It’s one thing to dedicate your time to a cause you care about and do work you love. It’s another to spend your time outside and be exposed to what mother nature can throw at you but love every moment of it.

This is the case for retiring crossing guard Christine Ghesquire. She retires today from being a crossing guard here in Listowel at the corner of Main Street East and Nichols Avenue.

“I’d say about 8 years I started up as a backup. I’ve been at the current site for 5 years.”

Christine started wanting to be a crossing guard after retiring as a custodian for the school board in Cambridge. She had wanted to be a crossing guard there but the chance never arrived.

“When I moved here the job posting came up and here I am.”

Christine may be retiring but she won’t be leaving the area she loves. She plans to visit the children and more who have become her close friends over the years.

“The children I love the children, the parents, the public. I’m still going to be a backup so whenever I’m needed I will be here.”

The little gestures are what have mattered the most to Christine over the years making sure the kids get to and from school safely.

“They say good morning and I say have a good day. And if I don’t work they’ll tell me that.”

Make sure to wish Christine Ghesquire a Happy Retirement today at the corner of Main Street East and Nichols Avenue here in Listowel. No matter the weather she showed up to protect the most valuable in our community.

Happy Retirement Christine.
